Making it in show business is never easy. As well as talent and the want to succeed, you also need some luck! Even once you think you've had a break, it's very hard to stay working and very easy to become forgotten. When I was chatting to Ross King about this, he had some great advice.
For those of you that don't recognise the name, Ross King is a Scottish broadcaster. He got his initial broadcasting break working for Emap, the same radio group that gave me my first full time radio job. Ross is also an actor, producer and director. Having won 4 Emmy's - he cant be bad! At the moment he can be seen live from 'La La land' on Daybreak and Lorraine.
After sending my showreel over to L.A. for his words of wisdom we got on to discussing the industry and ways to get work. He said...
"Being a presenter is a bit like being a shirt of jumper. You start of life as a new design that someone manages to sell to a small shop no one has heard of. As the brand develops, you may end up at the back of a department store on the high street where no one really sees you. You then become popular and end up in one of the most predominant places in the shop, or even in the window. Then the season changes and you eventually end up on the bargain rail before starting the whole cycle again."
This advice really stood out and I just thought I'd share it! Cheers Ross!

Heard a rumour today that I think would be great news. The return of the Big Breakfast. I grew up watching the hit channel four show and I think since it was axed there has been a gap in the market. During a 2010 interview with Richard Bacon, who was a Big Breakfast presenter, I hinted about its return and he said it would be very difficult to bring it back.
I agree with him. The show was almost so wrong that it became right. It wasn't a tightly put together, fully scripted program. However, it was highly entertaining and in my opinion what people need in the morning. There will always be room for BBC breakfast for those who want to catch up on the breaking stories or hear how the markets are doing. But if you want to wake up to something that's unpredictable, colorful and rough around the edges.. maybe you'll be pushing channel 4 on your remote before long.
Without a doubt, it will be the presenters that make or break the show. Daybreak have proved that. Who will they get? Johnny Vaughn seems to have parted ways with his Capital breakfast show... will he be fronting the come back?
Just a thought... in the 90's when the show was in it's prime, we all knew the letters BB as part of the shows branding.... in 2012, what do you think of when you see the same letters?

Well I thought it was time to give blogging a go! I have always tried to keep my news page up to date... but been so busy lately that updates have slipped.
I am also going to start using Twitter. I have to admit I thought 'tweeting' may have been a passing craze but it seems I was wrong and it is firmly standing the test of time!
Don't want to say too much in my first blog.. but I'm going to try and do a few posts to fill the thing up.. so watch this space!
I'll be adding news about what I'm up to as well as commenting on any gossip I hear!
Keep up-to-date...
